Book Club - May, 2010

Book Club was creatively fun this month. Unfortunately, everyone forgot their camera, but we certainly noticed a new flare amongst our beautiful projects. Even the books we've been choosing have more of a mixed media flavor. With that in mind, the group agreed that our Book Club would continue on that course and be a mixed media book club.

This was our first month at our new location, Carlsbad Boys and Girls Club. The room is spacious, with a large area for creating. Most everyone brought something incredible to share. Our awesome make and take was a 3 panel wall hanging and included papers and embellies.

The group made some unanimous decisions on a few changes:

Pricing: Sign up for a quarter (4 months) and pay $20 per month. You can pay cash, credit card or Paypal. You will be responsible for payment for all four months. If you are unable to attend the meeting, your credit card will be charged and you can pick up your kit at the next meeting. The new quarter begins next month on June 3rd.

Book: We will use the same book for all four months. Currently we are using Delight in the Details by Lisa M. Pace. I got mine at Amazon.

Venue: Meetings will be at the Carlsbad Boys and Girls Club on the first Thursday of the month, at 6:30, until further notice. Gee Gee's stamping store and a bead store are both within walking distance.

July's Meeting: Because of 4th of July, our meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 8th.

Swap: The swap for the new quarter is BIRDS and the due date is July 8th. If you haven't already signed up and you would like to be in the swap, please send me an email.

FYI: A new Book Club is starting this month at Cool Scrapbook Stuff in Poway. This will be a Scrapbook Book Club. We will meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, at 6:30. If you would like to be a Charter member of this new club, join us on Wednesday, May 19.

Hope to see you soon!

April 2010 Book Club

Book Club was a little different this month as we met in a house in Carlsbad. We missed our beloved Pink Pineapple, however, after hearing from Krystie, we are looking forward to the future plans of Pink and Scrapbook Club. After a short discussion, the members decided that just being together and sharing is one of the main draws of Book Club. The consensus was that rather than stop Book Club during Pink's transition to a new store, we would rather keep it going and be a roaming club for a few months.

April was the last month of this cycle using the book, Layered, Tattered and Stitched by Ruth Rae. We had a "show and tell" session that included some wonderful ideas that came straight from the book.

We previously arranged to do a garden themed swap this cycle. Wow! You ladies rose to the occasion with a plethora of ideas, everyone being uniquely different and beautiful. Check out some of the fantastic artwork that each of us had the privilege of taking home.

Next month, Book Club will be held at the Carlsbad Boys and Girls Club. The address is 3115 Roosevelt, 92008. It is located one block South of Carlsbad Village Drive. The entrance to the building is on Oak.

The book we will be using is called, Delight in the Details by Lisa M. Pace. You can purchase on your own, or let me know and I will add you to the list.

We discussed in April's meeting that we would like to do a "Garage Sale" so for May, bring a box of stuff. You know, stuff that you're just sure you'll never use or don't want, anymore. Put your name on stickers and put the stickers on each item. We will shop each other stuff and make offers on price. Feel free to price your items if you like, but keep in mind that we are definitely bargain hunting.

Look forward to Alisa Burke and Ruth Rae coming to Book Club, as our guests in the near future.

Our next Book Club meeting is Thursday, May 6th.

Ciao for now!

Creativity just pours out of these people!!

Sorry this post is so late. it literally took me about 4 hours to do this and i finally gave up and uploaded small photos. Lesson learned...

Here is the September kit full of cute adorable goodness! I can't wait to see what everyone makes!

Here are the amazing flowers from the flower swap. A ton more photos below...

Last month's meeting was so amazing!! Sorry it went so long but with our last minute surprise guest, there was just not enough time! Jim from Provocraft was kind enough to demo the new Gypsy machine for us. It is definitely amazing and opens up a whole new realm for Cricut users! I can't wait to get my hands on one of these!

Gloria has 2 cricuts at her house that she has not even used.. I think I see her using in the future though!
Thank you Jim for taking time out of your busy schedule to show us this amazing device. We feel privilaged to be among the small number of people to have been able to see the Gypsy in person!

Look how mesmorized everyone is! Serioulsy, its a great new toy- I mean tool! :)
